On May 28th, the Soundway Record label take an early jump into the silly season as head honcho Miles Cleret makes his second UK DJ appearance for 2010 for the unofficial launch party of Soundway’s forthcoming compilation Palenque Palenque: Champeta Criolla & Afro Roots in Colombia 1975 – 91, released on the 7th June.

After completing the African Soul Rebels UK Tour with Oumou Sangare and Kalahari Surfers earlier this year, Orchestre Poly Rythmo are gearing up for their summer tour. Kicking off in Lisbon on the 25th June, the tour sees them appearing at Roskilde Festival, WOMAD and Gilles Peterson Festival in Sete to name but a few. The tour also includes their first US appearances at the Lincoln Centre in New York and the Millenium Park in Chicago. Stay posted for ticket and venue updates.

Miles Cleret will be selecting and spinning some of his favourite Soundway tracks released over the last nine years plus previewing a crate load of tropical stormers that he’s picked over the many years he’s been collecting vinyl from around the world. From the highlife, disco and rock sounds of 70’s Nigeria to the golden age of Panamanian music, Benin’s Afro-latin grooves, Colombia’s champeta and all other forms of tropical and Afro sounds imaginable, expect an equatorial rollercoaster of music and an experience to be savoured as a Miles Cleret DJ set is almost as rare as some of the music he collects.

After their triumphant first UK appearance at the Barbican last September, Orchestre Poly-Rythmo are heading back to the UK as part of the the 2010 African Soul Rebels Tour. The tour also features Oumou Sangaré, one of the biggest stars in Mali, a towering, regal diva whose uncompromising lyrics in praise of women have made her the funkiest feminist icon on the planet. Opening the show with a dystopian urban groove are South Africa’s Kalahari Surfers and their special guest, the dub poet, Lesego Rampolokeng.
