Meridian Brothers are ready to bring their mischievous blend of Latin rhythms and psychedelic grooves to the UK for the first time. Straddling the line between new and old, Meridian Brothers is the creation of Eblis Álvarez, one of the key figures of the experimental music scene in Bogota. A true avant-garde guitar player and composer he also plays in Mario Galeano’s band Frente Cumbiero and was one of the 42 musicians involved in the recording of Ondatrópica. In September 2012 Soundway Records released his album ‘Desperanza’ that features ‘Guaracha U.F.O’, recently selected by Gilles Peterson as his #1 track of 2012.

Ondatrópica featuring Quantic & Mario Galeano

Will Holland aka Quantic (accordion & guitar) has joined forces with Mario Galeano (bass) of Bogota’s pioneering Frente Cumbiero to produce Ondatrópica a new big band embracing the past, present and future of Colombia’s tropical cumbia sound. Ondatrópica cradles the talents of some greats from the seventies golden age of Medellin’s Discos Fuentes such as Michi Sarmiento on sax, Wilson Viveros on timbales and Pedro ‘Ramaya’ Beltran on flute, Joe Arroyo’s trumpet player Jorge Gaviria and Alfredito Linares on piano, alongside a breaking wave of young tropicalistas including Nidia Gongora (Combo Barbaro) on vocals and the mighty Chongo (Sidestepper) on percussion.
